Days 1–3: Siemreap
Arrive in Siemreap, gateway to the temples of Angkor, and transfer to your hotel. Explore the main temple complex – including Angkor Wat, the impressive stone faces of the Bayon, and Ta Prohm – by bicycle. We also get off the main tourist route to visit remote Boeng Mealea and pretty Banteay Srei, cycling along backroads to Banteay Samre. Take a break from the bike for an tethered balloon ride above the temples, your chance to view the ancient city in its entirety.
Days 3–4: Kompong Thom & Kompong Cham
Cycle through villages on the outskirts of Siemreap to the pre Angkorian Roulos temples. From here, we drive south on an ancient Khmer highway, to Kompong Thom. Cycle quiet roads past paddy fields, swaying sugar palms and rubber plantations to Kompong Cham, on the banks of the Mekong River.
Days 6–7: Phnom Penh
Follow the Mekong south towards Phnom Penh, enjoying some early morning cycling and stopping to visit local markets selling everything from fresh fruit to fried spiders. In Cambodia’s friendly capital, we gain an insight into the contrasts of Khmer history with visits to the Royal Palace, National Museum, Tuol Sleng and the Killing Fields. Jump aboard a cyclo for a visit to the city’s namesake, Wat Phnom, and learn about the plight of local street children, and what you can do to help, at the Childsafe Centre.
Days 8–9: Kampot & Kep
Cycle through lush green rice paddies, as we head towards the south coast. Explore the relaxed surrounds of Kampot, famous for its pepper and durian plantations, then head to our beachside getaway in Kep. At day’s end, why not enjoy a cool drink on the beachfront as the sun dips into the bay. Spend a day relaxing on an island boat trip or jump back on your bike to explore the stunning natural environs and ruined casino at Bokor National Park.
Days 10–12: Mekong Delta
With beautiful scenery, friendly people and – most importantly – flat roads, the Mekong Delta is perfect for cycling. Cycle to a newly opened border crossing in the far southeast of Cambodia. Our passports stamped, we take the bus to Ha Tien, an interesting town on the Gulf of Thailand. More cycling awaits, as we head to Chau Doc, a fascinating frontier town on the lower Mekong River. Climb Sam Mountain to watch the sun set over Cambodia and visit a local fish farm before continuing to Can Tho.
Days 13–15: Saigon
After an early morning boat trip to the floating markets of Cai Rang we head to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). Marvel at the pace of change in this energetic city as we embark on a walking tour along historic Dong Khoi Street. We also visit the Reunification Palace, War Remnants Museum, and nearby Cu Chi Tunnels. You may like to reflect on your experiences with a sunset drink at one of the city’s rooftop bars before joining the group for a farewell meal. Your journey ends with an airport transfer on day 15.
